Logo Design Case Study

Good design begins with brainstorming & sketches, here's an insight to my process and sketchbook:

A recent logo I completed for Dental Connection, Inc. began with a meeting to discuss the requirements and objective for the new business identity. I then spend time brainstorming and jotting down quick notes, while also preparing options for typography & color that would be relevant to the business. Some very rough sketches were then quickly drawn in notepads before I started working on graph paper and refining the design.

Sketches are then scanned in and vectors created & combined with appropriate typography. The designs are refined and the finished concepts are presented to the client for review.

Even though it seems like a quick & finite process from start to finish, as a designer I would say more thought & overall brainpower goes into a business logo than most design projects for print or web. And deservedly so - your company's logo is your first chance to visually make a positive and lasting impression on your customers.

Typography Brainstorm

Graph paper is great, whether working with geometric or free-form objects it always helps to have a little structure.

The logo concepts are presented to the client, and one direction is selected & refined, or multiple ideas are combined until the ideal design is achieved.
